Maundy Thursday

The name "Maundy" probably comes from the Latin mandatum, or "commandment. The mandate that Christ gave His disciples during that Last Supper as He washed their feet was, "A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you" (John 13:34).

When the hour had come, He got up from grace's side,
took off His glory, tied humanity around His heart, to cleanse us of our sins.
In the midst of His friends, in the congregation of His enemies,
He kept the promise made to His Father, to love us to the very end.
