"I have had many,many conversations about the economy with the people that contribute (or DON'T contribute) to the success of our country. I read this quote several years ago and it had a chilling effect on me. I don't share it much because it is somewhat depressing. It was the catalyst behind me moving to the "country" and getting ready for sheer survival for my wife and children (no debt, grow my own food, raise livestock, solar panels for electricity, a water well, etc). My dad told me a long time ago that, "If you don't give the lazy bastards of this world a little bit of your money,they will rise up and take it all!" What happens when there is no more to give? Riots that make the "Rodney King" riots look like child's play. People that have worked hard to accumulate assets are in the minority. What we have now is what I call the "victim" mentality. Here's the quote: "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury,with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. Today we celebrate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birthday. This is a different perspective about him, although I question how this gentleman knows what was in Lincoln's mind.
